Who we are

United Response is a leading national charity providing support to young people and adults with special educational needs, learning disabilities and mental health needs. We believe in championing the right of disabled people to live, work, socialise and participate in the community, free from discrimination and unnecessary boundaries.

Who we need

Our Cornwall Supported Employment service is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Job Coach to support young people on our Project SEARCH Supported Internship programme.

Project SEARCH supports young people aged 16–24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to develop the skills, confidence and experience they need to move into paid employment.

The programme combines education, employability training and real workplace experience, supporting young people to develop their independence and prepare for the world of work.

The role will primarily be based at our Tolvaddon location, with regular travel to workplace placements and other community settings across Cornwall. Mileage is paid at 45p per mile between your base and supported work placements.

A full driving licence, access to your own car and a willingness to travel across Cornwall are essential.

Making it Happen – Your role

As a Job Coach, you will play an important role in helping young people realise their aspirations and progress towards paid employment.

You will provide individualised support within workplace settings, helping learners develop practical skills, build confidence, understand workplace expectations and become more independent. You will also support employability learning and work-related activities, working both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups under the direction of the Employability Tutor.

You will need to be a confident self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build positive relationships and adapt your approach to meet individual needs.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and enthusiastic team, all committed to helping young people achieve their employment goals and reach their full potential.

The benefits

In return for your passion and commitment, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • 20 days paid annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part time), increasing after 3 and 5 years' service (to be taken outside of term time).

  • Pension contribution.

  • Childcare vouchers.

  • Access to free occupational health, physiotherapy, counselling and advice services.

  • Fully paid training and access to nationally recognised qualifications.

  • Travel to work scheme (season ticket loan).

  • Access to an online shopping platform with discounts from over 3,500 retailers.

Plus, the chance to make a positive difference to someone's life – which is the biggest perk of all!

United Response is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the young people we support. We expect all involved with the service to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this.

All successful candidates will be expected to apply for Enhanced DBS Clearance and we are unable to employ or engage any person who is subject to a prohibition order made under section 141B of the Education Act 2002

#URC

United Response is a charity that was founded to respond to a need. People with learning disabilities and autistic people were being forced into long-stay institutions and denied the right to build their own lives and homes, connected to friends, family and all that life has to offer. So we created places people could be supported to live the lives they wanted to, building networks of support within a community.

Over the last 50 years we’ve grown from these grassroots. We embraced a creative, flexible spirit that enabled us to develop innovative support for people across the country.

United Responses’ culture of inclusion, and our focus on health and wellbeing and working models helps ensure that everyone – regardless of background – feels included and can be the best they can be.

United Response is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We are committed to the Mindful Employer values and are a Disability Confident Leader, providing support to applicants with mental and or physical disabilities including guaranteeing an interview for disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria.
